I attended San Jose State University in San Jose, CA where I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree Business Administration (Management) with a minor in Exercise in 1990.
I spent my last semester at SJSU volunteering at my former high school as a Strength & Conditioning Coach. I so enjoyed the experience that I spent the next four years training the entire varsity and freshmen teams in the off season and coaching offensive and defensive backs during the regular season. In my four years as Strength & Conditioning Coach, the varsity had its first undefeated season and won four league titles.
Since graduation, I have spent the past 15 years in the fitness and nutrition field. In that time, I have trained male and female clients ranging in age from 15-80 years old. I have over a thousand success stories of clients who have gained permanent control their body weight. I specialize in functional training, nutrition, body sculpting, injury rehabilitation, weight-loss and sport-specific training.
I moved to San Diego, CA in 1995 and have taken advantage of the great weather by creating my San Diego FitCamp™ programs. This is allowed me to offer a superior workout to thousands of clients.
I am an Certified Personal Trainer, a Certified Nutritionist and am certified by the American Heart Association in CPR.

Kevin LaCourte: Shaping Up San Diego
by Ondine Brooks Kuraoka
—[ live your dream ]—
More than 15 years ago, Kevin LaCourte, who holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in exercise, traded his suit and tie for workout garb. He started as a strength and conditioning coach, and then created San Diego’s first fitness “boot camp” in 1999, with the help of another trainer. When his colleague quit, leaving Kevin on his own, he tried a new tack: instead of the usual workouts in the gym, he took his groups outside. They went to the stadium at San Diego High School, and to pre-condo Cortez Hill.
“The response was really positive because it was different from anything they’d done before,” Kevin says. He credits the success of his business to his no-nonsense honesty and his ability to tailor his workouts to the needs of his clientele, who range in age from 13 to 78.
“There are no magic tools,” Kevin says. “People don’t always want to hear that they need to eat right as well as exercise, and that it will take them at least one or two years to get their bodies back. I don’t make wild claims about quick results. It’s just the realization that when you exercise you have a better outlook because you feel better.”
When asked to share any inspiring thoughts for others wanting to start a business, he says, “It’s something you have to live and breathe and believe in. The marketing is probably the most difficult thing — finding the right way to get your message across. You have to feel that no matter what kind of competition you come across, you are doing something different from everyone else. And stick with your integrity. If you do, you’ll attract the clients you’re looking for.” “Starting San Diego FitCamp has allowed me to live my lifestyle, to evolve it into a business entity,” Kevin says. “I enjoy Mondays. I enjoy getting up in the morning and training people.”
